Reverend Dr. Dave Burgess

Senior Pastor

The Reverend Dr. Dave Burgess began serving at St. Mark in August of 2017 after previous calls in Southwest Missouri, Lower Alabama, and Southern California. He received a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Missouri in 1996, a Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary in 2001, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Columbia Theological Seminary in 2013. Dave is passionate about preaching and enjoys leading all three worship services at St. Mark. The words of Emil Brunner, a Swiss theologian from the first half of the twentieth century, are foundational to his faith: “The Church exists by mission, just as a fire exists by burning. Where there is no mission, there is no Church; and where there is neither Church nor mission, there is no faith.”

When he is not at St. Mark, Dave spends most of his time with his wife, Sarah and three children. He is excited to take the kids to Cardinals baseball at Busch Stadium in the summer, Faurot Field for Mizzou football in the Fall, and the Enterprise Center in the Winter for Blues hockey (but he still misses those games at The Arena.) He is an avid history buff and political junkie who enjoys watching documentaries and listening to NPR. For his 40th birthday, Dave jumped out of a perfectly good airplane and went skydiving for the first time.

Dave is thrilled about what God is doing at St. Mark and in our community. He hopes to build on St. Mark’s long legacy of serving our neighbors and caring for the world. God is good…all the time.
